I don’t often return to the places I’ve left.
I find it too uncomfortable to deal with all the things that have changed.
Some places change so completely that I can hardly believe I was there at all.
In a way that’s for the best: I am spared the routine heartbreak of once-familiar
places and times reduced to reflections of themselves in mirrors that we broke when we left.
Some change only a little, which is sometimes harder to bear.
